Survivors of human trafficking and other forms of exploitation often face serious legal and financial barriers long after the abuse ends. Damaged credit, coerced debt, eviction records and criminal charges can stand in the way of housing, employment and economic stability.
This session will provide a practical overview of the legal needs survivors commonly face and the remedies available to address them. A special focus will be placed on financial justice under the Debt Bondage Repair Act (DBRA), which allows survivors to repair credit harmed by trafficking-related abuse.
Participants will learn how survivors and service providers can access free legal services through ALIGHT’s national network of pro bono attorneys, and how attorneys can become involved in providing meaningful, trauma-informed legal support.
