One Win Leads to Another: The East India Hockey Project (EIHP) utilizes hockey—India’s national sport—as a tool for social change, women’s empowerment, and Anti-TIP education for girls ages 12-17. The Program is funded by the US Department of State, US Sports Envoys, and US Consulate Kolkata. It is facilitated by Middlebury College and Shakti Vahini, an India-based anti-trafficking NGO. While the Program has demonstrated ongoing success that has led to year-round community programming, the funding model and program power structures have the potential to perpetuate colonial power structures. This session is intended to foster space a space for critical dialogue using a decolonizing lens, offering the EIHP as a programmatic case study to discuss the challenges of funding and power asymmetries in global health.
