Dr. Hossein Shirazi (hshirazi@sdsu.edu) is an Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems at the Fowler College of Business, San Diego State University. His research centers on trustworthy AI, with an emphasis on developing efficient, secure, and fair AI systems across cybersecurity, distributed intelligence, and healthcare domains. Dr. Shirazi’s work on model compression and federated learning enables privacy-preserving collaborative intelligence, addressing challenges in phishing detection, Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial security, and anomaly detection in complex networks. His recent research extends to the detection and mitigation of social engineering attacks, leveraging natural language processing and large language models to identify deceptive, manipulative, and fraudulent communication patterns. This includes work on misinformation detection in social media and emerging forms of AI-enabled deception in digital environments.
