Mara Waller

Mary (¨Mara¨) J. Waller (Ph.D., Univ. of Texas at Austin; MS, Univ. of Colorado – Denver; BBA,
Univ. of Oklahoma – Norman) is Senior Research Scholar at the Department of Management,
Colorado State University, Senior Fellow at the U.S. Army Research Institute for Behavioral &
Social Sciences, and Professor Emerita, York University (Canada).

Before beginning her academic career, Mara worked in the petroleum, aviation, and software
industries. Her work on team dynamics in crisis-laden situations has been published in
numerous outlets including the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management
Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Applied Psychology, Management Science,
Journal of Organizational Behavior, Group & Organization Management, Organizational
Research Methods, British Medical Journal, and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, and has been
quoted in the New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. She holds research and teaching
awards across multiple universities, and has been awarded competitive research grants from
the U.S. Army Research Institute and other government institutions. Her 2024 book
