Intimate partner violence (IPV) and sexual assault (SA) are global health issues. Survivors of IPV and SA can have traumatic symptoms and responses that affect every area of their lives. Trauma, a phenomenon that who we are and can manifest in symptoms both overt and hidden, is life-altering and can be debilitating. In this talk, the presenter, a co-author of the recent article, “Trauma-informed music therapy with adult survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault: A scoping review”, will discuss music therapy as a potent modality for working with survivors with a trauma-informed lens. Music therapy is defined and the work of the Angel Band Project, a US-based non-profit organization that provides free music therapy services to survivors, highlighted.
